Core Level

The Design & Technology Association recommends that all teachers, technicians and support staff working in D&T should work towards achieving accreditation at the Core Health & Safety Level. At this level, specific health and safety training is available for both Primary and Secondary colleagues.

This training is particularly effective when departments complete it as a whole team, as this helps to ensure a consistent approach to the management of H&S across all areas of the department.

The Primary Core Health & Safety Training is particularly effective when departments complete this as a whole team, as this helps to ensure a consistent approach to the management of H&S across all areas of the department.

As such equipment needs clear guidance for safe use, the Design & Technology Association recommends the Primary Core Health & Safety Training course a must-have for anyone delivering or supporting learners in D&T lessons.

Secondary Core Health & Safety (Initial) Training

This course will familiarise you with the D&T Association Core Level Training Standards covering risk assessment, and will enable you to complete a Personal Health & Safety Portfolio for accreditation through the completion of 10 key areas.

The portfolio also provides a record of the H&S training undertaken by D&T staff and how their department manages to provide learners with a safe and healthy working environment.

Secondary Core Health & Safety (Refresher) Training

Staff are asked to keep their personal D&T Health & Safety Portfolios up to date, to accurately reflect their current working practice, and Refresher Training at the Secondary Core Level will be due after 5 years.

The ‘refresher’ course is suitable for all D&T staff who have completed the Secondary Core Level Initial Training and the personal D&T Health & Safety Portfolio, and whose Design and Technology Association accreditation is now due for renewal.
