Safety Awareness Course for Men's Sheds

In partnership with Community First Yorkshire and Horsforth Shed, we provide a Safety Awareness Course that has been specifically developed for Men’s Shed supervisors and volunteers.

The course focuses on identifying risks, implementing safe practices inc. PPE, and covering essential health and safety legislation for tool use.

Horsforth Shed is a fantastic training venue which offers workshop-based activities where people can learn new skills in a supportive environment. There is a well-equipped workshop with experienced staff and, just as importantly, a social area for refreshments so folk can get to know each other over a cup of tea or coffee.

Services Include:

1. Drop-in sessions. Operating on Tuesday afternoons (1-3pm) and Thursday afternoons (12.30-2.30pm) we offer an open door to anyone interested in participating. There are no set fees, we operate on a ‘give as you are able’ basis. As sessions can get busy, it’s best if you email us in advance.

2. School student support. On four mornings per week, we offer workshop-based activities for students who are in schools that offer specialist provision but lack their own workshops.

3. Short courses. In addition, from time to time we run short courses ranging from activities with Cubs and Brownie groups, sketching and watercolour classes to woodwork night school sessions.

4. Engagement focussed on particular groups. Since opening we have worked in partnership with Lighthouse (West Yorkshire), a charity based at St George’s Crypt in Leeds supporting those ‘battered and bruised by the storms of life.

5. Specialist support. For individuals who may be facing various challenges. These operate by arrangement to help people focus on tasks to develop their skills and competences.
