S9HS Portable Power Tools Health & Safety Training

This fully accredited practical training course covers the following higher-risk portable power tools, commonly used by staff and learners in school and college workshops:

  • Portable Angle Grinder
  • Portable Rotating (Circular) Saw
  • Portable Biscuit Jointer or Domino Cutter
  • Portable Reciprocating Saw (Jigsaw)
  • Portable Planing Machine
  • Portable Router
  • Table Router

Note 1: In line with The Design & Technology Association’s guided hours, each portable power tool takes approx. 1 hour to complete and it is usually possible to cover up to 6 tools in a full day as a ‘bespoke’ training course, tailored to your particular needs.

A typical day runs from 08:30 to 16:00, including starter and plenary tasks.

Wherever possible, we recommend hosting the training at your own school or college, using your own portable power tools – this ensures the session is highly relevant to your department.

Note 2: The trainer will also provide an additional set of portable power tools in order to maximise delegates’ practical use of the equipment.

During the S9HS training each portable power tool is discussed in depth and a range of maintenance activities are also carried out, as required.

After the session, delegates receive a digital download pack which includes current legislation, guidance materials and a range of editable H&S resources.

All the activities meet current D&T Association Training Standards.

Book today to ensure your team is confident and compliant when using portable power tools – practical, hands-on training delivered by experienced D&T Health & Safety Consultants.

Note 3: Courses are also regularly hosted at other centres (see Upcoming Events), which can be more cost-effective if only one or two members of staff require S9HS training.
