S7HS Wood Turning Lathe Health & Safety Training

This fully accredited practical training course covers the safe use of wood lathes, in line with The Design & Technology Association’s guided hours for Initial Training:

  • Wood Turning Lathe (4-6 hours)

Note 1: When Refresher Training is required, D&TA’s guided hours for wood lathes can be reduced to 3-4 hours.

A typical day runs from 08:30-16:00, including starter and plenary tasks.

Wherever possible, we recommend hosting the training at your own school or college using your own machines and equipment – this ensures the session is highly relevant to your department.

The S7HS course enables delegates to acquire H&S accreditation through a ‘hands-on’ approach, using a range of tools and equipment to complete a series of tasks leading to the completion of a finished product.

During this training delegates undertake a number of exercises including turning between centres, faceplate turning and woodturning chuck use, drilling, finishing and parting off.

Over the course of the day, your machine is also discussed in depth when undertaking a ‘mini audit’ and a range of maintenance activities are carried out, as required.

After the session, delegates receive a digital download pack containing current legislation, guidance materials and a range of editable H&S resources.

This course is suitable for teachers, technicians and other staff who are required to use this equipment.

All the activities meet the current D&T Association Training Standards.

Book today to ensure your team is confident and compliant when using wood lathes – practical, hands-on training delivered by experienced D&T Health & Safety Consultants.

Note 2: Courses are also regularly hosted at other centres (see Upcoming Events), which can be more cost-effective if only one or two members of staff require S7HS training.
