S2HS Metal Cutting Centre Lathe Health & Safety Training
This fully accredited practical training course covers the safe use of the centre lathe and/or CNC lathe for machining metals, in line with The Design & Technology Association’s guided hours for Initial Training:
- Centre Lathe / CNC Lathe (4-6 hours)
Note 1: When Refresher Training is required, D&TA’s guided hours for the centre lathe and/or CNC lathe can be reduced to 3-4 hours.
A typical day runs from 08:30-16:00 including starter and plenary tasks.
Wherever possible, we recommend hosting the training at your own school or college, using your own machines and equipment – this ensures the session is highly relevant to your department.
During the S2HS training delegates complete a series of tasks including facing off, turning down, taper turning, drilling, knurling, and parting off.
Your machines are also discussed in depth as part of a ‘mini audit’ and a range of maintenance activities are carried out over the course of the day, as required.
After the session, delegates receive a digital download pack containing current legislation, guidance materials and a range of editable H&S resources.
This course is suitable for teachers, technicians and other staff who are required to use this equipment.
All activities meet current D&T Association Training Standards.
