S12HS Essential Health & Safety for Workshop Technicians
The S12HS course is suitable for both new technicians wishing to gain a basic understanding of H&S and best practice within a modern D&T department, and will also be of benefit to experienced technicians wishing to extend their existing knowledge and understanding of H&S.
This fully accredited workshop-based training offers a choice of essential practical activities, and covers the following areas:
- Understanding H&S legislation, documentation and responsibilities
- Undertaking risk assessment and maintaining control measures
- Providing effective support for the D&T curriculum
- Understanding LEV systems
- Essential routine maintenance
- Ensuring a safe working environment for D&T
- Managing D&T resources
Note 1: Following this course, the D&T Association advises all technicians to attend further training to achieve certification on the Specialist and Specialist Extension Level H&S Training Standards, in order to develop their practical knowledge, skills and understanding of working across the range of machinery and equipment used in D&T workshops.
A typical day runs from 08:30 to 16:00, including starter and plenary tasks.
Wherever possible, we recommend hosting the training at your own school or college, using your own machines and equipment – this ensures the session is highly relevant to your department.
After the session, delegates receive a digital download pack which includes current legislation, guidance materials and a range of editable H&S resources.
All the activities meet current D&T Association Training Standards.
Note 2: Courses are also regularly hosted at other centres (see Upcoming Events), which can be more cost-effective if only one or two members of staff require S12HS training.
