S9HS Portable Power Tools Health & Safety Training
This fully accredited practical training course covers the following higher risk portable power tools used by staff and learners in school and college workshops:
- Portable Angle Grinder
- Portable Rotating (Circular) Saw
- Portable Biscuit Jointer or Domino Cutter
- Portable Reciprocating Saw (Jigsaw)
- Portable Planing Machine
- Portable Router
- Table Router
Note 1: In line with The Design & Technology Association’s guided hours, each portable power tool takes approx. 1 hour to complete and it is usually possible to cover up to 6 tools in a full day as a ‘bespoke’ training course, tailored to your particular needs.
A typical day runs from 08:30-16:00 including the starter and plenary tasks, and it is preferable that this training takes place at your own school/college (using your own power tools) where possible.
During the training session each portable power tool is discussed in depth and a range of maintenance activities are also carried out, as required. The trainer will also provide an additional set of portable power tools in order to maximise delegates’ practical use of the equipment.
Following the session delegates will receive a digital download pack which includes current legislation, guidance materials and a range of editable H&S resources.
All the activities conform to the current D&T Association Training Standards.
Note 2: Portable Power Tools Training courses are also regularly hosted at other centres (accessed via Upcoming Events), which is more cost effective if only one or two members of staff require S9HS training.
