S11HS Health & Safety Training for Site Staff

This fully accredited practical training covers the following portable power tools that are commonly used by site staff in schools and colleges:

  • Portable Rotating (Circular) Saw
  • Portable Biscuit Jointer or Domino Cutter
  • Portable Reciprocating Saw (Jigsaw and/or Sabre Saw)
  • Portable SDS Drill
  • Portable Planing Machine
  • Portable Sanding Machines (inc. Belt, Orbital & Rotary types)
  • Portable Multi-Tool / Multi-Cutter
  • Portable Router
  • Table Router

Note 1: In line with The Design & Technology Association’s guided hours, each portable power tool takes approx. 1 hour to complete and it is usually possible to cover up to 6 tools in a full day as a ‘bespoke’ training course, tailored to your particular needs.

A typical day runs from 08:30-16:00 including the starter and plenary tasks, and it is preferable that this training takes place at your own school/college (using your own power tools) where possible.

During the training session each power tool is discussed in depth and a range of maintenance activities are also carried out, as required. The trainer will also provide an additional set of portable power tools in order to maximise delegates’ practical use of the equipment.

Following the session delegates will receive a digital download pack which includes current legislation, guidance materials and a range of editable H&S resources.

All the activities conform to the current D&T Association Training Standards.
